Each piece of furniture utilizes one barrel. This ensures a consistent stain on each stave and maintains continuity in the barrels history. The barrels history begins at the cooperage and it lives out its life at the winery. Here, the barrel is filled and stained permanently by the wine inside. When a wine barrel is converted into furniture the barrels history is preserved and then continued on as furniture.

Each cooperage makes wine barrels a little differently. Therefore, the barrel itself helps me decide what it should be recycled into. Once its future has been determined the barrel awaits reincarnation.

The wine barrel is carefully taken apart and the staves are sorted. Each stave is selected for its role in a piece of furniture. Then they are shaped, sanded, and polished, after which a marine varnish is applied to preserve and protect the wood. This varnish provides excellent weather-ability, protecting against water, chemical damage and salt spray, as well as blocking any trace of wine odor.
